An Intro to Kimonos

With its elegance, comfort and timelessness, the kimono is at the heart of inspiration at niLuu.

If you’re new to the intricate world of kimonos, let us take you on a journey. We’ll give you the low-down on the traditional Japanese garment and how to wear it.

Worn by both men and women. Its silhouette is T-shaped as a wrapped-front garment with square sleeves and a rectangular body. Generally kimonos are made of silk, but we took a twist at that and designed ours with a vegan silk - for silkworms sake.

Throughout Japanese history, the kimono's practicality, comfort and cultural significance became an integral part of Japanese culture.

Crafted for everyday and formal wear, the kimono is designed with an array of color and prints to take you through your day.

How to wear your kimono:

Dress it up or dress it down. Kimonos can be worn to easily lounge around, as streetwear with your favorite sneakers or for a formal night out. Its versatility is all in how you style it.

If you’re wearing a printed kimono, let the art speak for itself and choose basics as your base. Wearing a solid color, make your look extra bold with accessories.

For a casual look, try pairing your kimono with your favorite pair of jeans or shorts. You can also add a simple t-shirt or tank top underneath, having the kimono be your wow-factor.

If you're dressing up for a special occasion, you can swap out the jeans for trousers or a dress/skirt that compliments the color and pattern of your kimono.

Whether you're going to the beach, running errands around town, having dinner, going on a date night, or walking the dog,  there is never a wrong time for a kimono.

A symbol of longevity and good fortune, the kimono is believed to live for a thousand years and to inhabit the land of immortals. So go ahead: Experience the silk sense.
